I led a project to create a central repository of Reference Data and Metadata for NT Health’s Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
1. Problem Statement/Opportunity
The EDWRP Reference Data and Metadata (RDMD) project was crucial for the successful functioning of NT Health’s new Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). With the implementation of a new core clinical system and necessary modifications to the existing hardware, a major challenge was to create, populate, and validate a comprehensive set of reference data. The project aimed to consolidate an extensive number of reference data tables (approximately 800) to ensure a clean, consistent, and updated dataset for the new EDW.
2. What I Did/Delivered
My role in this project was to oversee the creation and population of around 800 reference data tables, ensuring their validation through data from source systems and consultations with NT Health business units. This involved confirming the accuracy of the data to match both transactional data from the Data Warehouse and the business unit’s expectations. Additionally, my responsibilities included ensuring that all tables created were adequately described in the metadata libraries, essential for delivering the interface and data lineage required by NT Health.
3. Outcomes
The project was on delivered on time and on budget. The outcomes were an accurate and usable set of reference data tables, a current and precise set of metadata to support this reference data, and comprehensive user and technical documentation to facilitate training and data creation rules across the enterprise. These deliverables were pivotal for enhancing NT Health’s reporting capabilities and operational efficiency through the new Enterprise Data Warehouse system.
