Startup: Darwin Private Tours

I developed and pitched a startup for private tours in Darwin, which was well received. I went on to successfully launch the business which operated successfully until Covid.

Problem Statement / Opportunity: Darwin Private Tours was established to cater to a niche in Darwin’s tourism sector, offering personalised, intimate tours. Recognising a gap in the market for high-quality, customised experiences for small groups, the startup aimed to provide unique tours showcasing Darwin’s rich Aboriginal and cultural heritage. The objective was to attract mid to high-end travellers seeking more than standard tour packages, including families, couples, special interest groups, and business delegates looking for authentic local experiences.

What I Did / Delivered: I developed a detailed business plan, highlighting unique selling propositions such as small group sizes (maximum six people), customisable itineraries, and a focus on authentic experiences. I conducted thorough market research to identify target demographics and crafted a marketing strategy to reach them. The operational plan included collaborating with local operators and guides to ensure a diverse range of tour options, from city highlights to immersive cultural experiences, while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and a commitment to quality.

Outcomes: The launch of Darwin Private Tours successfully filled a market gap, offering high-quality, personalised touring experiences. The business catered to a diverse clientele, including non-English speaking visitors and those with specific interests. It gained popularity for its unique offerings, contributing positively to Darwin’s tourism industry. The venture operated successfully, demonstrating the viability and appeal of tailored tour experiences, until the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
